Getting started:
The IUE scholarship priority deadline is March 1, 2008. Students must first be admitted to UMKC prior to being accepted into the Institute for Urban Education. The UMKC's admissions office processes admissions application as they are received. Please note it may take up 4-6weeks to be accepted into UMKC. Once the student is admitted, the information is shared with the IUE office.
It is recommended you submit your personal statement, IUE application and references at the same time you submit your UMKC application.

1. UMKC Application: University of Missouri-Kansas City application for admissions and required credentials (if not already admitted to UMKC). Application available at: http://www.umkc.edu/admissions/. A $35 application fee payable to UMKC is required of students not already admitted to UMKC. Please be sure to check on the admissions application that you are applying to the Institute for Urban Education. For questions concerning your UMKC application, please contact the admissions office.
2. IUE Application: Please click on link for application: revised_IUE_Application 08-09 .doc (PLEASE NOTE APPLICATION HAS BEEN REVISED)
3. Personal Statement: Please attach to your UMKC Application for Admission a typed personal statement of 750 words or less addressing your interest and commitment to urban education. You may also want to address why you have chosen the field of education and why you think you will be an effective teacher in an urban school.
4. Two References: Two letters of reference are required, at least one of which should be from an educator or from someone who can address the applicant's performance in working with youth (please do not use relatives). Both letters should be submitted using the attached reference forms located on the IUE application forms and should be confidential, signed and submitted in sealed envelopes to address listed on the forms.
5. FAFSA: Although the IUE is not a need-based program, all students must complete the Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), as this form is used as a tool for UMKC financial processing. This form is available at the following web site and must be submitted between January 1 and March 1, 2008: www.fafsa.ed.gov. For questions concerning how to fill out the FAFSA, please contact the number listed on the FAFSA application/website or contact the UMKC's financial aid office.
6. UMKC General Scholarship Application: All IUE applicants are also required to complete the Application for UMKC General Scholarships. The Application is available at: www.umkc.edu/finaid. Application due date is March 1, 2008 (PLEASE NOTE NEW CHANGE--if you are a freshman, the deadline is February 1st-This requirement is waived for incoming freshman, Fall 2008).
