  • Make sure your IUE application is written in correct grammar and form, and always in a professional tone.

  • Ask a friend to proofread all parts of your IUE application, including forms and essays.

  • Read everything you are applying for, including the fine print.

  • Follow the directions, and do not hurry.

Letters of reference

  • Give at least two weeks advance notice when contacting to the person you are asking to provide a letter of recommendation.  Two letters are required.  Do not use relatives.

  • Make sure the person writing the letter knows where and to whom the reference letter must be sent, and the type of program for which you are applying. (UMKC Office of Admissions  Attn: Amber Daugherty - School of Education's IUE Application 5100 Rockhill Road, Kansas City, MO  64110)

  • Provide the person writing your reference letter with a pre-addressed, stamped envelope. They are to seal the reference letter and mail it to the address above.

  • Send a letter thanking the person who wrote you a letter of recommendation.

  • Submit IUE application materials early to make sure they get noticed. Never miss a deadline.
  • Keep copies of everything you send. If something gets lost, it will be easier to recreate your materials.
