Renewing financial support

IUE is a program that attracts potential urban teachers by funding their education.

IUE provides four-year tuition and up to $250 per semester for books and room and board for one year. IUE provides financial scholarships that make up the difference between tuition expenses and money received through federal and state aid and UMKC scholarships.

  • Students applying to the IUE must apply for federal financial aid at fafsa.ed.gov, and for UMKC general scholarships at sfa.umkc.edu. Students are required to apply for FAFSA and UMKC general scholarships annually.

  • Missouri residents are also required to apply for the Missouri Teaching Scholarship.
The Missouri Teaching Scholarship application must be approved by IUE prior to submission.

  • In addition, students are required to apply for two scholarships outside of the UMKC general scholarships area. The IUE staff encourages you to apply for multiple scholarships to improve your chances for receiving a monetary award. The Internet is a good source for scholarship information.
